Search Gray County Criminal Dockets

A Gray County criminal docket search tracks a felony or misdemeanor case filed against an adult in Kansas District Court. Start small. Pull up the statewide public portal, then confirm the county and the case type before you trust what you see. Kansas rules call the docket a register of actions, and it lists filings, hearings, orders, and the outcome. Not every filed paper shows up online, though. When an entry, an older case, a public document, or a certified copy sits outside remote access, the District Court clerk is the next stop for that Gray County court record.

Searching Gray County Criminal Dockets

Begin at Kansas CaseSearch. Pick District, not Appellate. If you know the case number, search by Case Number. Otherwise pick Gray County from the county field. Search by party name there, narrowing with the Criminal filter and a filing-date range. What comes back is an index, so verify the county, party role, assigned judge, case number, status, and latest event before treating it as the intended case.

Remote access is just one channel. Angela Bowlin, Clerk of the District Court, administers Gray County District Court case records. The Gray County District Court office, its public terminal, and a focused written request are the fallback routes. The clerk is at 300 S. Main Street, Cimarron, Kansas 67835. The phone is 620-855-3812.

  1. Open Kansas CaseSearch and accept the public-access terms.
  2. Select District, then search by exact case number or party name.
  3. Choose Gray County and Criminal, then add a useful date range.
  4. Open the match and compare roles, judge, hearings, and events.
  5. Ask the clerk for a public document or certified copy when needed.

Gray County Criminal Search Fields

Several routes exist in the current portal. But the narrowest field usually serves best. Citation Number helps with a qualifying District Court citation, business-name options serve cases involving an organization, and the date fields filter the filing date rather than the next hearing date.

Inside a Gray County Criminal Docket

A public criminal result carries a lot. It can name the court, county, and case type. It also lists the filing date, parties by role, counsel, prosecutor, assigned judge, public hearing information, and case status. The events index goes further. It may list a complaint, appearance bond, motion, order, journal entry, plea, judgment, diversion event, probation event, or appeal. A visible event label, though, does not mean its attachment is open online.

Case numberUse the number printed by the clerk or portal, which may contain a year and a code such as CR.
ChargeThe public accusation and charge description, where accessible.
SettingArraignment, motion, pretrial, trial, sentencing, or another event.
BondA release or security entry, not a finding of guilt.
DispositionA plea, dismissal, diversion, verdict, judgment, or other recorded result.

Read the newest operative order. The first complaint does not state the final outcome, and a later appeal or modified judgment may change what the docket says.

Gray County Criminal Filing Snapshot

The Kansas Judicial Branch tables give local context without exposing any private case. The fiscal year ended June 30, 2025. Gray County reported 77 criminal filings. Felony filings numbered 31, and misdemeanor filings numbered 46. The pending counts sat at 12 felony cases and 15 misdemeanor cases at the report date, with none in either category shown as pending more than 12 months.

The separate table counted 27 felony dispositions. Misdemeanor dispositions came to 50. Some of those cases were filed before that fiscal year, and the figures count court activity rather than people, so they cannot replace a case-level docket search.

How a Gray County Criminal Case Moves

A criminal register of action builds in sequence. A charging paper opens the public trail, then come an appearance or arraignment, pretrial motions and settings, a plea or trial, and a judgment or other disposition. Sentencing and post-judgment events may follow. Some cases travel a different route through diversion, dismissal, or appeal.

Docket flow: Charge Filed › Arraignment › Pretrial Settings › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing

Kansas CCMS filer codes show up in dockets. AFF marks certain affidavits, BON covers bond material, and APP flags appeal notices. DIS labels discovery or transcript material, INF an information filing, and MOT a motion. These are statewide filing categories. They are not a proven Gray County public shorthand. Use the full label displayed in the case, and ask the clerk when an entry is unclear.

Gray County Bond and Warrant Entries

Bond, warrant, and disposition get confused easily. Bond concerns release or security, a warrant directs an arrest or other action, and disposition records how a charge or case was resolved. None stands in for another. A bond entry never proves guilt.

Appearance bond
A release or security instrument and related docket event.
Probable cause
The legal basis asserted for process, not a final judgment.
Disposition
The recorded outcome, such as dismissal, plea, diversion, or trial result.
Events index
The dated activity list, also described as the register of action.

An event can stay visible while its attachment stays restricted. The gap matters for unexecuted warrants and probable-cause material.

Courts Holding Gray County Criminal Dockets

Adult felony and misdemeanor prosecutions filed in Gray County belong to the Gray County District Court within the Sixteenth Judicial District. A District Magistrate Judge works inside that District Court. It is not a separate county court. For a current judge assignment, rely on the case record or the clerk, since an older local-rule file names judges who no longer match the current statewide list.

City-ordinance charges begin in the relevant municipal court. They may not appear in a District Court search. An appeal from municipal court goes to District Court under K.S.A. 22-3609. Federal prosecutions belong to the District of Kansas and PACER, not Kansas CaseSearch. These are distinct custodians and databases.

Older Gray County Criminal Records

A Gray County criminal case can look thin online for reasons that have nothing to do with secrecy. The case may predate eCourt records in Gray County. A document may simply not be available remotely, or the portal may bar sensitive content from public view. None of that means the court record is sealed. The terminal at the courthouse often shows more public case information than the internet portal does.

Want a complaint, journal entry, or judgment? Write down the case number and the exact event label first. Then try the public link. If the item is public but missing online, go to the terminal. You can also mail the Kansas court-record request form.

Sealed Dockets and Public Access

Kansas Supreme Court Rule 22 opens public case records and events indices through the portal and the courthouse terminal, yet it also blocks certain sensitive case types and documents from remote access. Rule 106B spells out what the register of action is and places limits on compiled information. Remember that an electronic copy is not the official court record.

Gray County access rules: K.S.A. 60-2617 addresses sealing, redaction, closed proceedings, and warrant or subpoena material. K.S.A. 45-218 supplies the general request and response framework.

Juvenile, expunged, sealed, and other confidential information stays closed no matter how you ask for it. Switching channels does not make it public. If the clerk denies access, ask which rule, statute, or order controls that decision.

Gray County Criminal Outcomes in Context

The 2025 disposition table counted five felony dismissals and 22 felony guilty pleas. That is 27 felony dispositions in all. On the misdemeanor side, it logged four diversion or deferred-adjudication outcomes, 13 dismissals, and 33 guilty pleas, totaling 50. The published rows listed no jury trials. They listed no bench trials either, for felonies or misdemeanors in those columns.

Treat these totals with care. A filing is not a person. A disposition may resolve a matter that began in an earlier period. And an aggregate number tells you nothing about any unnamed individual case. Want to read a Gray County criminal docket properly? Follow the whole sequence. Start with the charge and run through the latest order. The Gray County case lookup can find that sequence by case number or party name.
